![]() I am in the US so availability/shipping of any of these are not an issue. On the other hand, getting the Schiit stack may provide more power and leaves the door open for future upgrades (maybe going balanced at some point?) due to having two separate units.Īll in all, both options cost the same ($400ish for my parents, $0 for me ) so I am having tough time making up my mind over which one to get. I give a slight edge to the Element II for looks more because of that giant knob, which I love. The way I see it: Both setups look (and apparently sound) fantastic. As a result, I want something that will also be able to drive other headphones that I may get down the line. I know that both of these options are overkill for the headphones that I currently own, but I am trying to future proof a little because the Element/ Schiit Stack will be gifted to me. That's my advice having been down this road many-o-time.As the title states, I am currently trying to decide between the Element II DAC/AMP Combo vs a Modius/Asgard 3 stack.Ĭurrently just have the HD6xx, Sundara, and X2HR. I don't mind waiting a month because my HD6XX will arrive by March. general consensus is performance wise they're similar so i am not sure which to get. ![]() The open or closed version both sound very nice and engaging, but will have some similarities to the HE-4xx you already have. Aesthetics wise I'm leaning more towards Schiit but the JDS Atom stack is less expensive to ship and i heard from the older posts that JDS has great customer support but I'm not sure about Schiit. The cheapest option is to spend some money on new music, but if you really want a change you can purchase something like the MrSpeakers Aeon Flow headphone and get a nice change from your current setup. Your budget will determine how far you want to go. The dac, as long as you hit the minimum requirement for a good transparent dac (like liquid spark dac/topping e30/jds atom dac) will matter less than the amp (jds atom/topping l30/schiit magnius). No need for a major purchase unless you want a different experience such as changing out your headphones. The amp makes a big difference especially on cans like the hd6xx which loves to be driven with clean and lots of power. 300 is enough for a desktop setup with Jds atom/schiit stack. So unless you know you want to change the sound of the HD6XX with tubes, this is the way to go. Coming back to your hi-fi tracks after those few weeks will make them sound amazing again. A JDS Labs Atom stack or Topping DX3 Pro+ for 200 measures so freaking accurate that they are easily arguable to be noise and distortion free within the range of human hearing. I have had this happen many times and the best cure is just taking a break from your setup or at the very least changing your playlist entirely for a few weeks. This is quite natural as our brains find great appeal in listening to something new and then as it applies its own filters and finally becomes accustomed to the sound it becomes bored. The funny thing about Upgrade-itus is it is often a cause of getting used to ones own equipment. I also own a Schiit stack ( Magni 3 / Bifrost 4490 ) and looking at your gear I'm thinking the best route is to change the headphones.
